I have heard various stories of Oscar Shindler but never examined his part in much detail, can someone else provide a summary of what he achieved or was at least trying to achieve

Basically, oskar Schindler started off trying to make money but later realised that it was better to save the lives of the jews.

However, it raises the point that most people know through either the novel "Schindlers Ark" or the film, "Schindlers List", which are both based upon a true story.

In adition, even though i acknowledge the great good the Schindler did, I have to ask myself was it his "holluwood" lifestyle which prmoted his selection for so much publicity/

In britain we had WO John Coward and his fellow POWs, who did so much to help jews, but are nor forgotten by the masses.

Yad Vishim is replete with other examples of "righteous jews" who did so much to reduce the final total of death in the holocaust, yet in many cases they are not acknowledged outside of yad vasim, mainly because they were so "everyday2 people.

Schindler is certainly the most prominent of the Righteous Among the Nations, but you can read about them all here:

What is the Schindler factory today? It still says, "Schindler Factory."

Today the Schindler factory still operates as a factory, but it makes electrical components not the enamelware it turned out in WWII. The sign wasn't on the factory in the early days; I imagine it's a later commemorative addition.

Thumbs up Schindler factory today

Thank you for that answer.

Must be weird for the guys who work in and run that factory today. They walk through history.
