 | Auschwitz I--the main camp 1) The main gate. The sign above reads "Arbeit Macht Frei"--"work makes you free." Inside the gate the camp orchestra would play marching tunes as new prisoners arrived. 2) Gas chamber and crematorium. Human ashes still line the walls. 3) Hallway inside Block 11, The Death Block. Photos of Polish political prisoners line the walls. The doorways along the hall led into interrogation/ torture rooms. |
