As I also said in that thread, Census were taken throughout Europe from the 1930's and Census taken post war.

Allowing for deaths by "natural causes" Pre- during - Post war emigration to the US, South America, Israel etc and the inbound records in camps (although towards the end they didn't bother) the numbers could then be crossed checked.

The figure that would be found may be more than anybody is prepared to accept.

The Nazi state had their personal record filing systems based on the latest industrial data collection systems in the 1930s.In the clip, it showed an example of the filing system that was used.It reminded me that in the past I have seen reference to it being a Kalamazoo filing system.

Whatever it was, it meant was that there were few hiding places unless the records were destroyed.Some people were lucky when as Bomber Command's bombing offensive increased , more and more of these records were destroyed.In fact there a few of the 1944 plot who escaped with their lives because their files were lost by being destroyed or the court case procedings files were suddeningly halted.Doubly luckly were those who treason cases were being presided over by the nototious judge Roland Freisler who was killed in a bombing raid on 3 February 1945.

In occupied France the official filing systems broke down due to the chaos of defeat among many reasons.The Resistance and the SOE were able to use this instability of the personal records system to dovetail false identies for their people.

These filing systems were a key to the progressive submission of the populations of occupied countries.Late in the war, the RAF destroyed the Gestapo Headquarters in Arhus for the purpose of destroying personal filing systems belonging to those of the population who were Gestapo prisoners and those who were listed as suspects.Unfortunately there was loss of civilian lives but a large number of prisoners escaped and the bonus was that a large number of Gestapo officials and collaborators werte killed.

Brings out the risk of ID Systems falling into the wrong hands ............
