![]() ![]() ![]() | How do you trace them? Is it possible? Is there an on-line database of known names? I appreciate that many disappeared without trace, and that the Nazis destroyed many records, but I just wonder if there is an on-line resource? Members of my wife's family died in the camps, and I think a branch of my own family - French Jews - did as well. They have an usuual surname and there are few with this name in France today.

![]() ![]() ![]() | I found an answer to this elsewhere on this forum. I was amazed at actually finding five people with the name ROZE, which was my grandmother's maiden name. Her father was from France, and I believe born near Paris. You can imagine my feelings when I found: Full Record Details for Roze Myriam Source Le Memorial de la deportation des juifs de france, Beate et Serge Klarsfeld, Paris 1978 Type of Material list of deportation from France Last Name RUZA Last Name ROZE First Name MYRIAM Date of Birth 1927 Place of Birth PARIS,SEINE - SEINE ET OISE,FRANCE Destination of Deportation AUSCHWITZ,CAMP Key to Transport Transport 22 from Drancy to Auschwitz on 21/08/1942 This could easily be a cousin of my grandmother... my long held suspicions have been pretty much confirmed and to say I am moved by this is an understatement. What an amazing resource... anyway, I just wanted to share that discovery with you.

Just noticed this while looking for something else. My home town (Melbourne) has the largest population of Jews in Australia and the highest concentration of Holocaust survivors anywhere in the world outside Israel. Just did search of the local telephone directory and came up with a list: Victoria has 7, New South Wales 6 and Queensland 7. The Victorian ones are listed below.

BBC News Player - Holocaust archive made public A huge archive which records atrocities committed by the Nazis has been now been made public. I could only get it to play when I clicked, "Launch In Stand Alone Player." Last edited by Owen; 04-10-2007 at 10:36 PM. |

![]() ![]() | The Nazis were very competent in maintaining records of their deeds throughout their 12 years of power."Tough guys" behind the front ruling terror over civilians and then reporting back to their seniors in Berlin of their "actions".There are many examples of their meticulous recording which led them to the dock. According to the news report the data has been stored for 60 years but I understand the US occupation authorities seized a large number of records and transferred them to Washington. Apparently the records are being converted to digital format which should be make deeper research possible. |

![]() ![]() | I too saw this item on the BBC and once more was sick to my stomach to see the levels of depravity to which the Third Reich sank. One record showed a list of executions at Malthausen concentration camp. To "celebrate" Hitler's birthday on the 20th of April 1942, 48 prisoners were executed exactly two minutes apart and this was dutifully recorded in the archives. Shortly after the camps were overun in 1945 it became the custom that local German civilians were forced to take a tour of the camps to witness for themselves the atrocities that had been committed in their name. If there was any true justice in this world, the likes of David Irving would now be forced to spend the rest of their lives going through these records.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Remember awhile back I had a thread about was 6 million the true figure (as some people denied that figure) and could a search be done of personXXX from townXXX if I'd know about this archive I wouldn't have needed to ask such a question. It's all there for everyone to see. No denial anymore. |
