![]() | My dad served with the 2nd Battalion North Stafford Regiment in Italy from January 44 onwards, he landed at Anzio and fought his way up the country finally ending his service in Austria, what I would like to know if anyone can help is what formation badge he would have worn, what army he would have been in , ie 1st, 2nd etc. He fought alongside the American 5th army, places I remember him mentioning are, Salerno, Palermo, Naples, Monte Cassino and Rome. Any help at all would be great, I am trying to put together my Dads history and at the moment am a bit lost. |

![]() | Hello Arthur, I have actually been trying, in vain, to contact old comrades of the 2nd North Staffs, as my dad was in their Middlesex machine gun support platoon and, like you, Iīve been trying to research my dadīs experiences. I have maps of the areas they went trhough and details of the Battalionīs movements north of Florence. What do you know about your dad? John McLoughlin. |

![]() | Try "The War North of Rome," by a fella named Brooks. It's fairly definitive on that bloody mess. You'll get good background on the fighting there.
