Sicily '43'

Two of my grandfathers brothers fought in Sicily during the war. Both were in the 2nd Bn. Inniskilling fusiliers and both recieved the MM within a month of each other. Thomas(Tommy) Moore recieved his medal during the battle of Catinia at Lemon Bridge on Simeto river (Oct. 1943). William recieved his medal for action on the Paterno-Belpasso road (Nov. 1943). Can anyone flesh out the actions of the 2nd Bn. during the Sicily campagain?
Both men were called back into action for Korea and unfortunately William was killed. Are there any forums or sites around for the Koeran conflict?

I have attached a copy of a comic in which Tommy's story was featured,I hope it turns out ok.

I can't help with the query I'm afraid but I am deeply jealous of the copy of Victor with your grandad on the cover.

"Himmel!"
"Stone the Crows!"
"Aieeeeeee!"

Great stuff.

Cheers for that,
Adam.

Your probably right about the dates Owen, I've took a look through what I've gathered together and it looks as if the actions took place in August.
Well spotted!
I visited the museum last year and got the usual lisit of contacts at the time.Tommy's wife is still alive and I've managed to get copies of records etc. from her though.

That is where my Great Grandfather came from. Came out to Australia with his brother in 1850. I will have to get there some day.

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)
