The Brazilian Expeditionary Force in Italy

I have composed a rudimentary Web page (link below) relating to the WW2 Brazilian Expeditionary Force in the Italian campaign -- it is a pretty rough first draft and needs much refining. Some anecdotal references list US rifles, cal .30, M1 (Garands) and US carbines, cal .30 M1 being supplied to the FEB but I have no definitive references or photos that clearly depict the type of smallarms in the hands of FEB soldiers -- I am looking for such definitive references and photos. Any and all information would be much appreciated.

Have you seen these site:

http://users.skynet.be/hendrik/eng/39brazil.html

http://www.anvfeb.com.br/
(if you google "anvfeb", and then "translate this page" you can read most of the pages in english)

And this a site with pictures of the memorials to the BEF in Italy:

I had seen the first site but not the other two -- thanks, Kyt.

There is a huge photo gallery at: http://www.exercito.gov.br/03Brafor/...nco/index1.htm

.......... I could not to find any photos of Garands or Carbines being carried , in fact, the only small arms I can discern are Mauser bolt action rifles which I believe was the standard issue arm of the Brazilian army at that time. The uniforms and personal equipment, however, are US GI issue as pointed out in various other references.

The Anvfeb site does have some pictures of troops in Italy with what look like US weapons and uniforms especially in the section entitled 1º ESQUADRÃO DE CAVALARIA MECANIZADO (1st MECHANIZED SQUADRON OF CAVALRY).

The following link takes you to the truly outstanding Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB ) Web site which is loaded with biographies, personal accounts, historical records, reunions, photo galleries, museums ..... and so on. I have posted the Googled translation from Portuguese to English version -- not very precise, but close enough to understand.

To access the wonderful Museum section, click on MUSEUS on the top navigation bar -- visit all the regional museums but especially the Bello Horizonte museum where you will see a Garand Rifle and a Carbine pictured in the Armament section and the FEB guard, Campo Grande museum where you will see a carbine pictured in the Weapons Room section.

The FEB were issued Garand Rifles and M1 Carbines in late 1944.

The following photo shows the far right FEB standing soldier holding a Carbine:

The history of the division, as written by its commander, was published in English by the U.S. government and probably can be bought via a used book search. I bought my copy on E-bay, I think.
