Nice piece of work. I am looking forward to the Christmas period when I can sit down and do some kits.

What are these new 1/48 Tamiya's like? I saw the Firefly in Normandy over the summer and it looked quite good.

Great to see a younger member painting and gaming with models, rather than a PC.

Have you tried drybrushing some of your tanks? It's really simple and it stops them looking too 'flat' colour wise. All you do is mix the main colour you paint your tanks with some white, get an old brush, dip it in the paint, wipe it with a cloth so it's almost all off the brush and then vigorously brush it over the model. The lighter colour will bring out some of the models details. It works very well on tanks.

Your Tiger is fine, vP, I only hope it doesn't rain or you'll get your transmission wet as I see quite a gap between the glacis and nose plate

ssshh.
errr.. it got dropped while unloading from its ship.
(I haven't seen 'flats' for ages, seem to be better quality than I remember....)

48th Tamiya kits seem really nice paul, metal hull makes 'em pleasingly 'weighty'.

WOW! I really like that tiger! I think that's the model that I will try first.

I assume that I'd have to buy my own paint for this project as it is not included in the kit box, but are there any special painting techniques or tools (airbrushing, etc...) that I would need?

Thanks!!

I wish I could help more Pearljam but it's something of a black art that I'm only starting to get my head around.
The Tiger is airbrushed/microsolled/washed/pigmented (etc.) to buggery but none of the techniques are essential, everyone starts somewhere. Try Missing Lynx for the best general modelling reference on the web, you'll see some of the the finest work in the world on there too.

If you do one of the 48th scale Tamiyas one thing worth remembring is you'll need some superglue to join things to the metal hull as well as normal plastic cement. Other than that, grab a paintbrush and go for it, the most important thing is to enjoy doing it, they never come out as well as you hope, some look like the glue-gun wielding cossacks have overun them but it doesn't matter if you enjoyed making it, each one is usually better than the last and you can always get the bangers & WD40 out.
Cheers,
Adam.

Thanks for the tips... I think I'll be purchasing one of these kits with some birthday/christmas money soon.
