MTB 102

Six MTB's took part in the evacuation at Dunkirk.

MTB 102 was commanded by Lieutenant Commander C. W. S. Dreyer, Royal Navy. She was the only craft of her kind to transport troops during Operation Dynamo which was 20 Soldiers.

Herroberst is an unknown quantity at this point
Just a strange question concerning Dunkirk. Did anyone fly out of the Dunkirk pocket? Was there an airfield close by? It is most probable that the Luftwaffe had complete air superiority at that point but was just curious if any officers or HQ staff flew out before the big sea rescue. I never heard of this before but am always interested in learning something new about history.

MTB 102

It seems she narrowly missed being famous:

Quote:
It had been the intention of the Admiralty that Lord Gort and his staff should be embarked in MTB's and at 1522 V.A. Dover had informed Rear-Admiral Wake-Walker by signal that 4 of these vessels would be available for this purpose. Unfortunately, V.A. Dover's signal did not reach R.A. Dover and the four MTB's (MTB's 67, 68, 102 and 107) were put to other uses; and indeed were all four back at Dover by 2315.

MTB 102 - 08.00 hrs Saturday, 1st June 1940

Quote:
As the ship was now settling, Rear-Admiral Wake-Walker transferred from the Keith to MTB 102; the order to abandon ship was given, and most of the men left her. At this moment a further series of dive bombing attacks shook the ship with near misses which landed amongst the men in the water.

MTB 102 is Famous !

Quote:
At 2330 Captain Tennant made the welcome signal: 'BEF Evacuated'. He embarked in MTB 102, together with the demolition party and left for Dover.

Movements from England of the 50 or so ships and numerous small craft for the nights evacuation commenced according to plan. Rear-Admiral Wake-Walker, who had come to Dover earlier in the day for consultation, returned to Dunkirk, arriving at 2200 in MTB 102.

Cheers for the links Clive....It seems they are not aware of her rather significant role at Dunkirk.
