Nijmegen 1944

This is from a documentary about the Canadian army. The clip is of Nijmegen 1944. Love the Holiday sign and the list of flats and "Holiday activities" available. Brilliant!!!!

"Shooting both ways"... nice.

5 seconds from the end, I can't work out what's going on with this truck's cab??

Noel Burgess is on a distinguished road
I think that will be a 6pdr portee converted to a GS body - looks like it could be a bedford QL

Austin K5

I reckon that the truck is an Austin K5 'Portee and Fire' to GS conversion. I've found a couple of photos of the same type amongst my Dad's pictures. This would also be a just-postwar shot as he didn't get hold of a camera until then.

L4697229 is listed as 3 ton 4x4 a/t portee from contract V4866. The plate above the radiator is the flash protector to allow forward firing. The conversion seems to have retained the soft-top cab and much of the portee stick set.

I think that truck hit an overhang bridge or similar, particularly interesting, as I was over Nijmegen bridge soon after it was captured. A long time ago.........
