Battle of the Bulge Newsreel

As it's 'Bulge' time of year, thought this would be appropriate.

Strong stuff.
Some familiar bits but a whole load of footage that was certainly new to me.
Don't think I've ever seen such clear coverage of a Jagdpanzer IV in action either.

(Must look into getting an 'insert youtube' button, I've seen it on other Vbulletin forums.)

Thanks for the link. Noticed, at 3:55ish, an MP44 being carried. Don't recall seeing one before in photos or film.

British Churchills at 1 minute 13 seconds??
Good find, Paul.
Definately aimed at "whinging" civilians back home.

Glad it was of interest.

Certainly looks like Churchills; hard to tell if they were Crocs? They could be from 34th Army Tank Brigade, which served in the Ardennes.

Speakng of reenactments. If you haven't seen "Saints and Soldiers" a tiny budget independent movie that looks like a huge budget movie taking place during the Bulge, I reccomend it. Watch the "making of" bonus footage afterwards. It shows that good even exceptional movies can be made on the cheap.

"I wish we had the balls to let them get all the way to Paris before we cut them off." General Patton after the intial opening of the Ardennes offensive.

It's probably the best and most famous image of the MP44 in action. For the real 'Bulge nutcase', the two ATB Bulge books dissect the film and stills taken on the Poteau/Recht road almost second-by-second. The little private museum at the Poteau crossroads is well worth a visit if you're in the area.
