Thumbs up

Just making up a Roll of Honour for Commonwealth casualties on D-Day. (Casualties for 6th June 1944 Only).

I would be very interested in any information/photos that relatives/veterans may have.

Please leave a message via this forum or e-mail me directly.

Thank You.

Angry

Drat It!

I will be there on 6th June. Will you be visting the Beaches?

What about my RAF Roll of Honour? Do I need to give that plan up as well?

PLEASE tell me I am not wasting my time or that one already exists (apart from the one held by Air Historical Branch).

Good Luck Paul, the website looks great. Just the thing to keep the memory of The Fallen of WW2 alive.

RAF Roll - no, that sounds like a good idea. I will be adding RAF to the D Day site as well - are you familiar with which squadrons were active on that day?

I'll be there on 6th June; I work as a battlefield guide and the company I do tours for have 28 coaches going out. I will be on one of them. We will be visiting the ceremonies at Merville Battery and Ranville on 6th June; when I have full details of them I will post them on this site, as anyone will be able to attend and they will be easier to get to than some on or near the beaches.

Talking

Paul,

I have e-mailed you the details of some Stevenage men who were lost in Normandy, which I hope you find of use.

I have a reasonable knowledge of the Squadrons that were operating over Normandy. If you need any info just drop me a note and I will be happy to help.

As a side issue, 6105471 Gunner ERNEST JAMES KEMP, Royal Artillery age 20
Died 06/06/1944. Panel 3. Column 2. BROOKWOOD MEMORIAL.
As the greatest armada ever know was taking place Ernest Kemp was being hung at Wormwood Scrubs for the murder of a WAAF. A somewhat ironical casualty on D-Day.

Good Luck

You might already have their names but a handful of Australian airmen were killed on the 6th of June 1944 while serving with the RAF & RAAF.
If you go to the Australian War Memorial's website http://www.awm.gov.au and in the honour roll date field type 06/06/1944, it will bring up the names and biographical info of those killed.

Regards
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

You are right, I do have the names but thank you for the info anyway. The whole purpose of these sites is about sharing information and I may not have known about the Aussies.

If you need any info yourself, then just drop me an e-mail and I will be happy to help.

Regards
