I take it you're talking about:

Administration history of 21st Army Group

Well, it's not available at either Bristol or UWE. I've just checked the BL catalogue by title and ISBN, and they don't hold it.

I'll try to get the Uni library to make enquiries as to who may hold it, and if inter-library loans can track a copy down. But I doubt if I'll hear anything now until the new year. If it's not available via the BL then admin alone will charge about £15 (gone are the days of free inter-library loans for non-course work material).

The original book was produced by the admin staff of 21 Army Group at the end of the war, and covers all aspects of supply from D-Day tot he end of the war, with an important section on the artificial harbours at Arromanches. It includes all the aspects of war normally disregarded by the military historian unless there was a problem - this is a success story and the volume is of fundamental importance in understanding what the "sinews of war" are. p.s. it's actually called ""The Administrative history of the operations of 21 group on the continent of Europe 6 June 1944 - 8 May 1945", not that that helped in locating a copy.

Should be fun trying to get the librarians to locate a copy!

Did we find out any more on these 1400 lorries?
Just read about them again in The Great Mistake by Peter Beale. He makes no mention of his source and doesn't discuss it further just says, "This was not helped by the unserviceabilty of 1400 British built trucks."
Nothing more but it did remind me of this thread.

Ahh, sorry, forgot to reply. Back in Feb I was informed that it would have to be a special order. The costs meant that it wouldn't have been that much cheaper than buying the book.

If anyone is still interested in this there is a copy in the Bodleian Library here in Oxford. It cannot be removed or consulted by non-card holders but if you are desperate for a few pages or a specific reference than I can order it up and check it out.

Sounds good Huge, this one's run and run, still bugs me for certain.
We really are only after the reference to 1400 knackered trucks (otherwise I'd have just bought the thing) and... fingers crossed... a reference to why.
