Strange bit of kit that needs id.

The object pictured here was lying on the surface of the former ‘Site No.4’ at Stansted Airport three months ago. This site is clearly shown on Air Ministry plan no 2495/45 (dated July 1945) as a workshop area on the perimeter of what was for most of the war a USAF facility. The object looks a bit like a JCB or slew tooth, decorated with patterns of weld. I suppose it could be agicultural in origin but I am curious to see if anyone recognises it as a ' No.17a Retaining Plunger type b' or some such. Any comments would be gratefully received.

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

Yes, I fear it may well be but nothing ventured, nothing gained

Doc is an unknown quantity at this point
Looks to me like a tooth off the bucket of a scoop loader (construction equipment, not particularly military). Doc

Yes, I think it is the most likely, if slightly boring, option. Thanks for looking, Doc.
