Name and number help

I have had a MKII helmet in my possession for as long as I can remember. It was found by my mother, in the loft of a house she lived in before I was born. So I know nothing about it's history. On the sweatband is written the name H.Sharp 1841M. All these years I've wondered who H.Sharp was and what the number meant..is it the last four digits of a service number? And what does the 'M' represent?
Can I find out who the owner was just with this info?

Big Thanks
