![]() | I think that is probably very unlikely. My grandfather, like many men I think, seems to have come back from the war hating it and never wanting it to even be spoken of. My mum was born in 1951 and this is certainly her memory of her father. My grandmother, who was married to him in 1944, also always said he couldn't stand mention of the war after 1945, but I admit she is not as reliable a source as my mother. His service records show him as "permanently unfit" for further duty when he was disharged in 1944 also. My nan always said he took Dunkirk very badly and this made him ill and he had to have occupational therapy over this for a long time. I can't be 100% sure it was directly after the war he was ill with this though, as I think it is possible the case was he came back from Dunkirk, was then given occupational therapy, then went back to the war, rather than it was directly after the war but before my mother was born that he was ill with this. Come 1945, he'd done a solid 15 years of the Army, and I think this was enough for him. Thanks |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I wonder if as a reservist he was called back to the Colours when the Korean War was on. I'm not saying he went there but he could have served at the Regimental Depot? Brian C on here had two relatives who served in WW2 and were called up for Korea. |

![]() | I guess I can't totally discount these ideas, but they seem unlikely to me. My mum was born and baptised in 51 and my uncle the same in 56. I've located all these records and in all of them he is described as occupation motor mechanic, not as being in any army job. |
