I have a letter sent by a German POW to my grandfather (who was involved with the camps from 1940 - 1948) . I have tried to trace this man but the German authorities told me he had just moved to Kenya and they were unable to contact him . I would still be interested to find him - anyone have any ideas ?

Linden,
Err, no? I don't speak a word of German unfortunately.
Have you seen something?

Hello Gordon

I had a look last night at Mathsmal's site . It is bilingual and looks interesting .

I'm interested because my grandfather was running several different camps and I've inherited a letter to him from a German prisoner . I'm thinking of posting something on this German site .

Good Luck !
Linden

A friend of mine was at the NA this week for a talk on PoW documents and he told me they plan to release the German WW2 PoW records in the future......sorry but don't know if this means the short or long term.....

Thanks for the info, Airborne. Probably long term.
I recently asked for a quote on MAF files covering PoW's work placements in Britain. First time I requested paper copies, and I got a quote for £213; I then asked for digital copies of the same file....and got a quote for £2500!
So when I picked meself off the floor, I decided to start saving for paper copies....eventually
