Priest at Changi

I have an Honour Roll for Gorton Monastery in Manchester .... it's definitely on going !!
I have been trying to follow the Franciscan Fathers who also went to war and I have been looking for this Father for close to a year but just had a break through regarding his name ... I would appreciate any help ... to find out more about this man !!

Royal Army Chaplains Department
14th January 1940
Chaplain to the Forces 4th Class
Rev Aidan Jackson

( No wonder I couldn't find him .... I've been looking under "A" and I should have been looking under "S" .... I didn't know his Franciscan name was Septimus !! )

26511 Jackson Septimus A capt 108267 A ( for Army ) captured 15/2/42 liberated 2/9/45 Camp MA

STET Jackson Septimus Aidan 1/930 Captain RAChD Priest ..... crossed out in red but next to that is 1/930 ( I think it says) Overland 25/6/43 Ret'd Cha Dec 43

So does this mean he came back to Changi ?? was he on the Railroad ?

Thanking you in advance

Annie

Hello Annie .
Recently , someone found the card my father had filled out on his release . There was some detail on it . These cards are held at Kew and it might give you some of the information you are looking for .

Thank you Linden !

I'm not able to get to Kew I'm afraid .... but I was hoping maybe somebody would have a little more information that I could use ... and maybe decipher what was written on the list !

The cards are interesting aren't they ?

Yes , I was surprised to discover that it was written in his own hand .
If you find someone to look up the card I would be really interested to hear about it .

I can't believe what just happened .......... I'm sooooo excited ... guess what ?? One of the guys on another board found our Father Jackson's POW card !!

AND I found a site that mentions him by name ...... Padre Jackson !! is that cool or what ??
I only saw him mentioned by name once ... and at one point they said they were without a padre ... so I'm wondering if he was at the hospital .... I hate to think of all the places he could have gone though .... I know chaplains went through some pretty terrible things !

Anyways here's the site ....... with a war diary also

Thank you for that Annie . The war diary was very interesting . My father arrived in Singapore about a month before it fell . But how awful for these men - just a few days before !
Interesting that your man was on the railway for only 6 months . I wonder whether this was the period when they had the push to complete the work ?
