Trying to trace what happened to my Great Uncle Pte Snell

Hi all

I am trying to research what happened to my great uncle, he was :-
6143447 Pte Snell
2/6 Btn East Surrey Regiment.

He was taken prisoner at St Valery in June 1940 and I have tracked down his grave through the War Graves Commission. His grave is in the Berlin Cemetery. He died on 19 February 1945, aged 27.

Can anyone help with tracking down which POW camps he would have been sent to etc. As he is buried in Berlin I have a suspicion he died as a result of the forced marches towards the end of the war but I don't know for certain.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks

Owen,

The information came from 'Prisoners of War British Army 1939-1945' [Alphabetical Nominal Registers of over 107,000 British Army POWs of all ranks held in Germany and German Occupied Territories.]

Hi JanM

You could try contacting the War Pensions Agency, as they now hold German POW record cards, if you ask them nicely they might be able to give you a copy of great uncles.
