That would be a shame. My great-uncle was a SeeBee on Guadalcanal and I'm sure he and other veterans would not be happy. A lot of American blood was shed around that airfield, including that of the man it was originally named for.

I guess my question was a little obscure, as there have been no replies.

I'll open the topic so that someone else can post a question.

The answer was- Cactus Airforce, the American code name for Guadalcanal being Cactus.

As I said in post #280, I knew the answer but laid off and did not think it obscure at all.

To say something is "Cactus" in Australia, (coll) means it is dead, finished, useless.

That is what I was making my reference to.
