Miramar Ship Index

Welcome to the Miramar Ship Index

Quote:
The Miramar Ship Index is an historical database listing both merchant powered ships of about 100 gross register tons and above and naval ships of even smaller tonnage displacement (see the About Page for more information).
The Ship Index is domiciled in Wellington, New Zealand and takes its name from the peninsula and suburb of Miramar, which lie between the harbour entrance and the airport. The peninsula, originally called Whataitai by the Maori, was named Watt's Peninsula by the early settlers, but in 1872 it was renamed Miramar ("behold the sea") for the principal landowner, taking the name from Austro-Hungarian Emperor Maximilian's favourite castle on the shores of the Adriatic Sea.
