![]() | Re: Any Collectors? I believe DCM is now referred to as the CMP. I recently bought a Garand from them and its really nice. Paid $350 for it, too. The ones at the shows are more often than not the same thing, but being sold for WAY more than they were bought for. They do have "correct" and "collector" grades available and they can be expensive, but nice ones can be bought for a decent price if you buy directly from the CMP. The point I was making is that a cellector will turn up his/her nose at a "restored" Mauser, Mosin Nagant, etc., but the US rifles, like the M1, can be restored and command a high price. A mismatched Mauser, Mosin, etc., looses value if it has non-matching numbers, line outs, and the like, but a matching Garand is almost impossible to find. Personally, I prefer the "been there, done that" look. |

![]() | Re: Any Collectors? Due to total lack of room, little things, like RAF sweetheart badges and the perspex hearts (which appear to have gone through the roof in price in the last 12 months) and other small items that interest me. Recently acquired a WW2 era field bandage in it's original packing for a couple of quid. On top of that I have a soft spot for WW1 silk postcards. If i see a set about to be split by a dealer I pay way more than they're worth to keep them together, cos I'm soft like that. ![]() |

![]() | Re: Any Collectors? Collect WWII German helmets and have a marked k98 in pretty good condition. I've been tempted to start buying a couple of American pots but the hobby is leaving me poor enough as it is and I'd probably get yelled at by the spousal unit anyway. So I'm sticking to German only for the meantime. |

![]() | Re: Any Collectors? Another collector chiming in. I've collected military handguns for several years, examples from many countries and both world wars, to the point that my pistol safe is stuffed full. Time to sell a few, this fall perhaps. I bought a M1903A1 from the CMP three years ago. It's a Springfield Armory, 1935 or so, one of the rifles that came back from Greece. The muzzle gauge goes to three, so the lands are worn to a bore diameter of .303 or so, but it still shoots just fine, more accurate than I'll ever be. I also bought a couple of thousand rounds of M2 ball ammo from the CMP at the time, Lake City 1966. Excellent stuff. JT |
