info Plt. Off. John Thould

Hello,

I am a new member.
I am looking for information about Plt. Off. John Thould (service number 175972). He was a pilot in No. 263 Squadron,
crashed on October 13, 1944 and died that day. He is buried at Merksplas Cemetery, Belgium. I might have found the remains of the aircraft and I would like to recover the remains, but I have trouble with getting the papers I need to start. Therefor it is for me important that I can be as well documented as possible. I already contacted the RAF Museum, but they could not help me out.

Can anybody help me out?

Regards,

Ericno4

52nd Airborne will become famous soon enough
The only info I've got is: He was flying a Typhoon 1b MN476 and was shot down by flak south-east of Hoogstraten. I hope that helps.

Hello 52nd Airborne,

Thanks for the information. Do you know where or how I could get a photograph of the pilot so that it is not only a name but a real person to the people who have to grant me the permission to recover the remains of the aircraft?

Regards,

Ericno4

Hello Erico,
Just been Googling and found your request on here too.
tommy-talk.com :: Bekijk onderwerp - gezocht:info Britse piloot
Great name for a website.
I see John Thould was from Worcester.
CWGC :: Casualty Details
It might be worth contacting the local paper to see if there are any relatives still there.
Worcester News, Worcester Sport, Worcester Leisure - From The Worcester News

Someone may even pick up on this thread, I have had a photo sent to me from a relative via this website of a casualty I was looking for.
Good Luck.

Entry from an ops record book for 263 squadron with the same name (and Squadron markings) associated with this regrettable incident:
SINKING OF HMS BRITOMART AND HMS HUSSAR BY FRIENDLY FIRE

Hey Von Poop,

Thanks, now I have a idea of what an ORB lists.
I think I have to go to The National Archives to have a look at the ORB's of No. 263 Squadron.
