287 Italian Labour Battalion, Pioneer Corps

Just been lent some paperwork by some friends of ours.
They asked me to help explain it all.
I'll copy it and post it here tomorrow but it's 5573745 Sidney Arkell's Soldier's Release Book and part of another form, Small Book (?), I think.
I'll get them to apply for Service Records & I see his Army Number is from the block for Wilts Regt, not surprisingly .
His trade on enlistment was builder's labourer so I can see why they sent him to Pioneer Corps.
I assume the 287 Italian Labour Battalion was made up of ex-Italian POWs with British Officers & NCOs in charge.
I'll report back with more in the morning.

Owen.

The "Small Book" was being phased out mid-WW1 (latest print that I've seen is 1916). What you have there is (part of?) his AB64 Pt.I- the "Soldier's Service and Pay Book".

Below left is my Uncle's AB64 (Pt.I) and to the right is a AB64 (Pt.II) which recorded the pay (apologies for it being Belgian, but i dion't have the Brit version to hand!)

Dave.

Cheers Dave, the only reference to any Army Form was B 2089 but that was on the Form of Will at the back of the book.

Just noticed the dates of entry in my uncle's book (never really looked at it before and he never spoke about it anyway) - no wonder I'm interested in the 1940 campaign! (That's practically all bar one of my WW2 serving relatives who were involved in it!)
