jsd is an unknown quantity at this point
Need help identifying this ship, can anyone help?

My grandfather served on this ship and I have been researching trying to figure out what it is and see if I can find any service records of where it had been to. I have searched everywhere I can think of to no avail. I know at one time he served in both Atlantic and Pacific fleets but was primarily in the Pacific (he actually ran into one of his brothers while on shore leave in the Pacific). The ship appears to have the #25 on it and it doesn't appear to be any kind of combat ship. From what I know it was some type of support ship. I don't know what he did on the ship, he died before I was born. Any help you can give to shed some light on my grandpa is greatly appreciated!

Jeff

I guessing from your terminology, that this a US Navy vessel?

Could you tell us what time period this is? Is it a WWII era ship? It looks older? It is an odd looking ship.

Any idea what your grandfather did or what the role of the ship was?

If it is a US Navy vessel, try also posting the pic at ww2f.com, there are lot more US members there. This place is full of Limeys.

Welcome aboard.

Fair comment Slip, and he's right jsd, it's chocka with Yanks () over on WW2F, with perhaps a greater chance of ID-ing the ship.
(Though hopefully someone here can prove me wrong )

Good luck,
Adam.

Very glad to be proven wrong.
(He said nervously, knowing next to nothing of Ships.)

Nice one Chris.

Cheers,
Adam.

I had found a site that listed all US Ships of the war and had gone through all of the auxillary/transport types that had a bow number that included 25, but neglected to look at the LSDs, thinking they would be shaped more like an LST or similar ship. Foolish me.

Good Show Chris.
