Question ronald thomas rose, hms pozarica

hi a big hello to everyone i really hope you can help me
ive been doing research on my family history for 5 years and are nearly at the end now but 1 rel was a real problem, a great aunt paston, but this week has been an explotion of info as im sure you all get sometimes nothing then it all together .
elsie paston married a f. trowse in 1916 but he died in ww1 then she remarried in 1921 to a russell rose and had two children , maybe more but will wait and see, her first born was ronald unfortunately i found him on cwgc died 1941 25/5 age 19.
he was in the merchant navy, an assistant steward.
his father married again in 1928 as my aunt died in 1927 leaving two young children but he must have moved to tendring, or harwich from norwich as this seems to be where his new wife was from .
i really want to know more about the hms pozarica, also if theres any photos of ronald rose! i have no knowledge of the merchant navy what would be his duties?
also how did he die?
sorry its a long thread to start just wanted to explain my story a little to you all.
i really hope you can help and if anyone is going to the harwich cemetery id really like to know.
look forward to meeting you all thanks in advance

HMS Pozarica was built in 1937 and classed as an Auxiliary AA ship. On 29 january 1943 it was damaged in an air attack by an Italian torpedo aircraft. It was towed by the minesweeper Cadmus to the port of Bougie in the Mediterranean. On 13 February 1943 during repairs the Pozarica capsized and was lost.

Hms Pozarica

Hello and welcome,

POZARICA official number 166331 built in 1938 for MacAndrews & Co Ltd, London.

June 1940 she was purchased by the Admiralty for service as an Anti-Aircraft Auxiliary.
29th January 1943 attacked by torpedo bombers in posn 37.04N 4.36E capsized Bougie 13.2.43 & Broken up in Savona 16.6. 51.
If you Google “HMS POZARICA” with the quotes you will find good information. HMS POZARICA also took part in the ill-fated convoy PQ17.

Regarding Ronald Thomas Rose, there is a file at the National Archives in piece BT 372/322/90 is this him: Ronald Thomas Rose This file is his seaman's pouch. Pouches can be hit or miss and there is no way of telling what will be there unless you look. There is sometimes a photo there albeit a mugshot.

It is likely that when the POZARICA was handed over to the Royal Navy the MN crew would have signed what is known as a T124 agreement. There may be details of Ronald held at the National Archives in piece BT 382/3277 at this link here: Detecting your browser settings

There are other files in the National Archives covering HMS POZARICA this one covers 1941 -1943 but I suspect deals with the torpedo attack which crippled the ship. ADM 267/131 at this link here: Detecting your browser settings

These files will be free If you can visit the National Archives in Kew otherwise you can get them by requesting an estimate on-line. If you need advice on this just post back. I hope that helps you.

Regards
Hugh
