Australian records are now held at the National Archive of Australia from WW2 back. Check out the web site for details and have an online order service.

www.naa.gov.au

Also the DVA site is a good one for a link to service details and certificates.

ATS RECORDS

Does anyone have experience of obtaining records for women who served in the ATS during WW2? Do you apply to the same department as for men - Historical Disclosures, Brown Street, Glasgow?

[quote=Paul Reed;23369]Service records for British Army Officers and Soldiers since 1920 are held by:

Army Personnel Centre
Historic Disclosures
Mailpoint 400
Kentigern House
65 Brown Street
Glasgow

Are these, and the Navy and Air Force records, available only to relatives?

Researcher in South Africa

I am presently awaiting a first batch of photocopied records posted only a day or so after making the initial request. He also has very reasonable prices, and coupled with the strength of the £GB and US$ against the SA Rand makes for a very good deal.

NOTE: I have no association with the researcher other than as a client, but thought that Pals would be interested in having the details of a good researcher in such a location, since SA records are not digitised and have to be photocopied and sent by post (and I have read threads about the difficulties and delays of seeking records direct from the SADF archives).
If anyone wants his email address please leave a post and I will contact you dircetly (save filling up my In-Box).
Hi there
I would really be grateful to have the name of a reliable researcher, as I have almost given up on the one I paid a research fee to last November. I must admit, it was not a lot of money but it has been a long time to wait.
Thanks
Janice

I would like to point out that applications for RAF service records should now be made at the following......

Service records - RAF

Service records of RAF Officers that served prior to 1922 and Airmen that served prior to 1924 are held at the National Archive.
Service records for Officers and Airmen that served after these dates are retained by the Royal Air Force. RAF service records are retained by Service Number, Rank and Full Name, and will also contain the Date of Birth. It is important that as much of this information as possible is provided to assist in locating the correct record.
Enquiries about RAF held records should be made as follows: From Current/Former RAF Personnel.

A Subject Access Request (SAR) form needs to be completed and sent to:
RAF DPA SAR Section
Room 220
Trenchard Hall
RAF Cranwell
Sleaford
LINCS
NG34 8HB

01400 261201
Ext 8175
Ext 8172
Ext 8173

From Family Members and Other Authorised Individuals
A Certificate of Kinship form needs to be completed and sent to:
RAF Disclosures Section

Room 221b
Trenchard Hall
RAF Cranwell
Sleaford
LINCS
NG34 8HB

01400 261201
Ext 6711
Ext 8161/8159 (Officers)
Ext 8163/8168/8170 (Other ranks)

Hello all,
I am still feeling my way around your very interesting WW11 Talk website.
My father was in Assam and Arakan with the 25th Indian Division in Bill Slim’s 14th Army during the Burma Campaign, and I am just now typing out a stack of letters he wrote to my Mum from the front, but due to censorship, I have no idea from where in Burma he is writing.
Does it say on his service records the details of where he served?
And how do I go about getting these records?
I have tried a few websites but they are a maze.
I would be very grateful for any help.
Thanks, Peter C

Firstly, Welcome aboard !

If you click on my name (on the left), view Profile, and go to my Photo Album ,you will see the type of info you could expect from your father's records.

No actual place names (other than in England) but certainly dates, units & main areas of command such as BNAF (British North African Forces) etc.,

Regards

Ron
