![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Gebirgsjäger Division Gebirgsjäger Division Hello, Would be interested in finding out more about above, in particular the 4.Gebirgsjäger Division from 1943 onwards. Anyone got any recommendations as to books, sites etc? Have already found a site which lists engagement history etc, but looking for something with a little more flesh on it. 4.Gebirgsjäger Division http://www.gebirgsjaeger.4mg.com/4gebdiv.htm If there is nothing specific to recommend, can any one thing of a good background resource to Kuban bridgehead etc? Nothing would be too basic in my case. Absolute beginner. Thanks, dbf |

![]() ![]() ![]() | The only book I have on the elite Gebirgsjäger is an Osprey published book in their Warrior series, #74. Written by Gordon Williamson. It is typical of that style, basic information on recruitment, training, deployment and awards. Well illustrated with a good breakdown of the specialist equipment the cadre carried. You already have all of the information pertinent to 4 Gebirgs Div from this book from our earlier communication Di.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi, Thanks, before I checked with you know I tried to find more about the Divisions. That is, I wanted to know why they were formed and what training the men underwent, why they were considered an elite, or specialists, to get an idea of what it was like for someone to be serving. I would have liked to have an idea about why someone would have ended up in this particular unit. Obviously I have googled like mad to find photos, but none seem to be attributed to the 4. Div. I was kind of hoping there was something along the lines of a unit history with photos of the men in action etc.. Failing that a good informative book about the actions in which the Div. took part would be great to get a bigger picture. You know I am interested in late 1943 onwards and why it is important to me. I hope there are other books out there which would be recommended for my needs, so that I do not waste money on something of little relevance or help. Thanks again for your help and confirmation, for the reply and the name of the book. Appreciate it very much. Diane |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Good info on the Division lads. It just occured to me reading Owens first link, that there were divisions in the Wehrmacht who were solely involved in the East and never faced the Allies on the Western Front.
