Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

For a good introduction to the LRDG and its activities, have a look at:

LRDG, Long Range Desert Group 1940-1943

And one of these sites may be able to help you directly in finding information about your grandfather:

LRDG - Long Range Desert Group Preservation Society

LRDG - Special Forces - Roll Of Honour

It may be worthwhile getting hold of his service record, as this may contain more detailed information about his militray service.

At that time, with British parentage, your grandfather would have been considered as British.

For information on getting his service records, have a look at:

Service records

His service number should be in his service book.

As to L/U/SGT, I'm stumped but I'm sure someone here will be able to help.
