Hi from a new boy

Hi everyone - just to introduce myself as a new member. I'm Dave from Cheshire, UK and like many others my interest in World War Two relates to my Grandad. He was in the Second Batallion The Cheshire Regiment and as part of the 50th Infantry Division saw action pretty much everywhere!!
Cyprus, Israel, North Africa, Sicilly, D-day to the start of Market Garden and then to India as part of the South Lancashire Regiment and from there to Java as an MP. I'm extremely proud and very determined that his, and everyone elses, work will not be forgotten. Moving onto my reason for joining. I managed to write down most of what Grandad (Pte then Lcpl George Frederick Kettle) could remember but soon after this he had a stroke and was paralysed and couldn't talk for three years dying recently. I have much work to do if I'm to record his movements 1939 to 1946 but hopefully you lot here may be able to help. I'll be posting questions soon in the relevant forums so please bear with me or if I become annoying please let me know.

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

Div "Flashes"

Hi Dave

Just thought I'd point out that Div Flashes could also be worn on epaulettes as seen on this snap taken in Egypt in 1944. The Div insignia is that of the 78th British Infantry Div, sometimes referred to as the Battle Axe Div.

Good luck in your research
