Well, we do eat grits, I like them doused in Tabasco.
I used to work for the Australian distributor of Tabasco as the Export manager and had a bit to do with the crew from Avery Island. Allowed me to get to places like New Guinea, The Marshalls. Kiribati (Tarawa - Betio) The Solomons (Guadalcanal) etc. They love the stuff. I prefer the chipotle for the BBQ.

I prefer red beers also, may fav is an amber made on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain in LA by the Abita Brewing Company.
Bad punctuation, Should have read Red Wine. We do have alot of Boutique breweries in Australia and they are very popular also.

We used to have a member who lived on the shores of Pontchartrain however we have not heard from him since the really bad weather hit.

Best I can figure, Aussie are a lot like us, only ya'll didn't have a bit of a row with the Crown like we did.
Possibly because you were looking for Independence when Australia was being first colonised. Many lessons were learnt on both sides.

Were you at one of the schools at Maxwell?
No! I have always had an interest in US history and read up alot on many areas especially civil and ww1 & ww2.

Also with the previous job we imported quite alot of brands from the US besides Tabasco. (Betty Crocker, General Cigar, Hershey's, Hain-Celestial etc.) I used to entertain many of them when they visited Australia so I liked to be conversant in quite alot about their home states. Made them feel comfortable and think that all Aussies had more than half a brain.

Cheers

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? Check out this site:

Spidge,
I have several friends who were in Vietnam, all spoke glowingly of the Aussies who were there fighting. To the man, they preferred them to the ARVN troops, which wasn't much of a surprise to me, from what I have heard about both groups.

Is there another sport?

Well, there is Hockey. I lived in the DEEEEEEP South as a boy (and still do), so hockey wasn't much of an option for me, but I would have like to have been able to play it.

I am looking forward to this year, maybe Alabama can rise back to former greatness with our new coach. We paid enough for him.

Do you follow the NCAA?
