![]() ![]() | Michelle - thank YOU for you most kind comments - along with all the others- slipdigit et al - I too will look forward to your input on this web regarding the recent trip by Paul and the gang to Ortona and Casa Berardi not only on Paul Triquot's V.C. but also Mahoney's at the Melfi and 'Smokey's' near Cesena. Bit of a Hoo Haa going on at the moment here with an old Sherman Tank which has been on display and maintained by a local chap in Chillwack - now the BC Dragoons want to steal it up to Kelowna - like a bunch of kiddies - I had a few battles with them when I lived in the Okanagan ! They of course think the 5th Arm.Div won the war ...I didn't think so ! |

![]() | Hello Michelle, Welcome to the Forum and thank you for your Father's service. As Tom Canning states, both the 21st and 25th Tank Brigades have strong ties to Canada. Here's a couple of photographs taken during this year's North Irish Horse Reunion. On the second one you can just see the Maple Leaf on my lapel - awarded as a Battle Honour - it is still worn on uniforms. http://northirishhorse.net/NIH/110.JPG http://northirishhorse.net/NIH/107.JPG Warmest regards, Gerry |

Not a tale - here's a photogroph that may bring back memories to Tom: http://northirishhorse.net/galleries/canadian/Nye-3.jpg It is of Lt.General J.G.Vining, GOC 1st Canadian Corps, taken on his way to Rimini, 23 September, 1944. Cheers, Gerry | |

![]() ![]() | Gerry - That officer looks more like Tommy Burns than Vining to me....looks like he was on his way to the big booze up after the capture of Rimini on the 21st - that was when he toasted Brigadier Dawnay's 21st TB's actions - " who spared no squadrons in their efforts to support the Canadians"...all we got was the RED Patch of the Canadian 1st Div - the 25th had nicked all the Maple Leafs ...at least - this is what we heard ! You're looking good Gerry - sorry I couldn't join you for the parade at Hyde Park with the 16/5th Lancers - maybe next year |
