![]() ![]() ![]() | Most people introduce themselves here, but I admit that forums like these can be hard to get your head round at first. Don't take a non-reply to your posts as an indication that no-one is interested in what you say. The forum gets busier and busier and it's hard to keep up with it all, plus WW2 is very diverse... you might be the only specialist in your field here! But whatever, welcome... and hope you will continue to post.

WELCOME!! Sorry you haven't gotten any replies to your posts. ![]() I've only been here a little while and have placed some posts up with no answers either. Luck of the draw... bump them up now and again, maybe you will catch someone's eye ![]() In the meantime how about posting up some info and educating the likes of me, who knows nothing on the subject at all. Recommend some books, sites ...? Hope you stick around. All the best, dbf | |

![]() ![]() | Hi mate, Welcome to the forum, what are your main interests then?...i take it Burma is one?......i have only one connection with Burman or actually two....First is Great Uncle Cyril he served in Burma with the Queens Own West Surry Regiment, he got there just before the battle at Irrawaddy River. And m Great Uncle Vernon Roberts who i think was an RAF officer shot down and held as a POW. He had a distended stomache no fingernails and suffered from i think it was Beriberi. We are all new here once...dont worry if we missed your posting...im sure you will make up for it soon enough ....Regards, Donnie

![]() ![]() | Now mate. As previously said, don't worry if you post a thread and nobody replies. We've all done it. Just depends if anybody has anything relevant to say regarding your topic. I've just looked at your previous posts and can't see where you're coming from. People have replied and even quoted your name in their response. Some people post an introduction thread when they first join (although I didn't 'coz I didn't know I had to) but it doesn't matter if you don't. Don't worry about it pal. I don't know much about the Burma side of things so maybe post some stuff you know an educate those like me who could do with being taught about other theaters other then western Europe. ![]() keep posting. cheers marcus |

![]() | Thanks, marcus69x! I'm from Waterloo, ON Canada and studied history at WLU (Wilfrid Laurier University). Although none of my relatives fought during the war (my father was a young boy and my grandfather was considered too "old", being in his '30's), the war did affect everyone, somehow. I'm not all that well versed on Burma, other than I knew a gentleman who had served as ground support for pilots flying "the Hump". He was a wealth of stories. This, of course, led to some reading I found related to this theater. Certainly the people there were challenged in many different ways than the guys in western Europe or even North Africa... I also learned to sail with a man we called the "Commodore", because of his service aboard a Canadian corvette in the Atlantic escorting the convoys. He had stories that would curl your hair. Hope to hear from you soon. What stories do you have? |

![]() ![]() | Hi History Buff, My interest in Burma and the CBI theatre is with the Aussies that flew and died with the RAAF & RAF. My project is to collect photos of each and every Aussies Headstone and those that are remembered on memorials around the world in 65 countries during WW2. (11,300+) Aussie flyers are buried in Burma (now Myanmar) at Rangoon War Cemetery, Taukkyan War Cemetery & Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery. The first death recorded was on the 24/01/1942. They were also buried in China/Hong Kong, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the other Asian countries of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia & Singapore. One statistic that is not well known and may be of interest to you is that there are also 146 RAAF lads buried or memorialised in 45 cemeteries/memorials in all 10 provinces of Canada. The first on the 18/12/1940 and the last two on the 24/04/1945. (Yes, even one on PEI) Cheers Geoff

You chose dishonor and you will have war." (Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.) What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? ![]() | I told you that I´m a CBI and ABDA fan, in fact of all theaters in which man was worth more than the machine, that is, those in which the war was and stayed a military slugfest, instead of an industrial one. ![]() Keep those threads coming!

![]() ![]() ![]() | Howdy Buff. As they sadid, pay no attention to non-attentiveness to a thread. My first thread went mostly unnoticed until about 6 weeks later, when it came alive. ![]() (psst--if you want to get these (mostly) Limeys all stirred up, mention how you think Monty was a real pisser...he he he.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() | Hi Spidge! That is a very interesting piece of information about the RAAF servicemen buried across the country. How did you find that one out? Canadians don't record their history very well, neither do they teach it very well, I feel. Do you think that the 146 that are buried are victims of training accidents, guys that were part of the Commonwealth Air Training program? Steve (History Buff) |
