Thanks for the detailed introduction Spitbloke. Two very interesting projects you have there.. Alex Henshaw was a legend and Brummagen's part in the production of war supplies could do with an enthusiastic advocate.
So hello and welcome, I hope you like it here.

Cheers,
Bod

Hey Spitman, nice to meet you. That Alex Henshaw sounds like a top pilot. Definately worth doing a project about. As do the people of the homefront. Although everyone is aware of the horror of bombing, seldom do I think of scenes like you described. Like workers walking past bodies to take over their shift etc. Goodman.

Is there any footage you can show us of 'A Midlands Town'?
Tried havin a shufti on you tube but couldn't see anything.

Hello Marcus
Thanks for those kind words. Would that I could show you some footage. That's the problem. Getting serialised drama commissioned for the TV companies is a nightmare. For crying out loud even Spielberg and Hanks needed the credibility of Gene Kelly to Produce Band Of Brothers and as those are the sort of production values I am aiming for here, you may begin to understand what an ordinary Jobbing actor is up against. I will keep trying though

2 things before I pootle off for now....The Castle Bromwich aeroplane factory featured in a well known British morale booster called MILLIONS LIKE US.....It was re named Carlton Heath and it tells quite a bit. The only bit of footage we have of Alex Henshaw actually flying a Spitfire is in a film that can be purchased from the Imperial War Museaum called FERRY PILOT....There is a bout 4 minutes of Alex wonderful flying At an airfield in the Midlands

The other thing well yes the graphic image of the day shift walking past the bodies on their way back in to work was something that has been recounted to me by many different people who worked at CBAF and other places.....for pete's sake, boots and overalls were in such short supply that a few days later you were quite literally walking in dead mens shoes, but sometimes those stories are brave and utterly barking mad British too, witness the following.

A 200 pounder had made a bloody great crater in The middle of the Moseley road. I went and covered it over and put myself up the road so as to stop any body from coming down......I was shittin me self I can tellyer......Any road all of a sudden along comes the gallopin major....Major Carberry known to a lot of us. He always turned up to an unexploded bomb riding on the outrunner of his truck whistling the ride of the bloody Valkyries or summat like it. He nips down the crater and has a listen then the next thing he's scampering back up the ladders like old Joe Bollocks, yellin at us to clear the area......He manages to get about 25 feet away from the crater when WHUMPPP...you felt it more than you heard it and I look up in time to see the Major being blown two streets away. Anyway as the dust settled, I could hear this bloody whistling Ride of the Valkyries again and there's the gallopin Major uniform ripped ter shreds and blood everywhere..... " That was a bit of a bugger wasn't it?" he said and keeled over. Two weeks later he was back again still whistling the same tune, still de fusing bombs

Keep in touch please, the bigger a potential audience I can find, the easier it will be and thanks again for your encouraging words, I shall never give up.
