cabage32 is an unknown quantity at this point
need to pick your brains

hi all
I'm hoping that someone can help me.
In 1992 to 1993 I was serving in the army in Bielefeld Germany. I was selected to take part in an exercise. It was involving a reinactment of a train that carried injured army casualties throughout germany in WW2. During this exercise I was acting as a casualty and was offloaded on a stretcher at various stations throughout our journey.
I was 18 back then and to me it was an excuse to get off regular duties for a couple of weeks so I didn't pay any attention to what it was and why it was being carried out. I am now 34 and I am now interested in what I was involved in.
I'm after anyone who can shed light on this but I'm limited to information.
As I said previously, it was on a train, I think it was Germany only, but could of been elsewhere too. We were stretchered off the train, treated, then returned to the train and continued our journey. It was between March 1992 and September 1993 as that was my tour out there.
I really have no more info as I said, I wasn't really interested at the time because all we did was play cards, eat and sleep between stations and I can just remember how boring it was and how travel sick I got lol.

Does anyone know of a train that travelled through Germany on a mission to collect casualties????

Hope someone can help.

Many thanks

Hello cabbage,
I did a Google & found this.
I could also ask my brother-in-law as he was a chef on an ambulance train for a few weeks sometime back then.

Posted: Mon May 19, 2008 7:50 pm I recollect an occasion when the hospital train was used in the early 90's during an Ex Maxi Mash that tested the BAOR casevac chain from Gen Hosp to the Channel Ports.
A convoy of vehicles containing "casualties" that were to board the train was dispatched to Munster bahnhoff early one Sunday morning. The local population quickly took umbrage upon seeing a host of bloodied and bandaged waifs walking down the platform in strippy blue and white pyjamas. Whoops!

Hi

RAMC hospital trains were used in France and Belgium in 1940, up until the evacuation of Dunkirk.
