![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Steve - Welcome to the forum and I am sure that there are a few people here who can help- as there are two or three members who were also in 78th (Battleaxe) Division along with the 5th Buffs. The 5th Buffs - along with 6th West Kents and 8th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were all in th 36th bde which was also known as the "Fire Bde" as wherever the fight was fierce - they were there. They landed in North Africa in November '42 - the Sicily in July '43 - then Italy on september '43 - and finally finished up in Austria in May '45... so they had nothing to be ashamed of as the 78th was one of the best divisions in both 1st and 8th armies. Look them up on Google and also for 78th Division Cheersl |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Steve Welcome aboard ! As my Atavar indicates I am one of the 78 Div men that Tom mentions. I joined my unit (the 49th LAA) in April '43 and, until it was rudely disbanded in late '44, we were very much involved in 78 Div activities. The Regimental Diaries: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/unit-do...-extracts.html will give you a very clear indication of the route we travelled in our journey from North Africa, through Sicily and then on to Italy. By one of those queer strokes of fate, when I finally ended up in tanks, my new unit was attached to the 78 Div and once again I was to see the Golden Battle-axe being displayed everywhere. If I can help with any related matters don't hesitate to come back here. Cheers Ron
