Never played it friend. THough have played SH3. I get annoyed on the long wait between actions.

A mate of mine's addicted to it, plays in German in real-time.

I tried the third one but couldn't even get the damned boat out of harbour, (too distracted by total war at the time no doubt) that's not necessarily a bad thing as I usually like games that take a week or two to understand properly. Might have to give it another go as so many people seem to rave about it.

The Pacific based SH4 on my computer has been modified to work properly.......a specific MOD that you get from the silent hunter site called Trigger Maru.....this and Patches available turn it into a slam bang SIMULATION for the buff like me...

The Mod I'm using makes the Japanese more responsive (you dare NOT take on anything larger than a sub-chaser.....and it makes the ships themselves more realistic to sink, with compartmentalized programming that makwes the shipds behave realstically even when sinking.....this is NOT an arcade style game, and a little practical application of real tactics works wonders....I have sunk ships ranging from Fuso battlehips to subchasers,....and even, once, a CARRiIER. Alll this good stuff is inserted by the site users themselves into their latest patch or mod...a praiseworthy effort all round.....motivated as they are to make their game the most accurate EVER on the subject.....some of my own favourite research is on this very topic, the AMERICAN sub campaign in the Pacific

Juutilainen is an unknown quantity at this point
bought it a few months ago. rather challenging, magnificent graphics. avoid playing SH3, though have one, as it kills the Allied (didn't know only play German sub at the time of buying), but not SH4, as the Japanese aggressors deserved to be killed.
