Hi all,

This is a bit off topic for me, but I was wondering
if anyone could help.

I was given a PC game Desert Rats v Afrika Korps
by a friend as he new my interest in in this particular
campaign.

Let me tell you before we go any further that I am
no computer whiz kid but I can push a few buttons
and get where I want to get in the end (Bring back
my old ZX81 any day).

Well I read the minimum requirements and I have
plenty of everything. I managed to get the game
going but admit it was a bit slow, which surprised
me because like I've said I have plenty of everything.
I thought I'd try and reduce the graphics etc... to
speed up the game, this worked for a bit but now
my computer crashes and goes back to my desktop.
Any ideas?

I have run DirectX diagnostics and found no
problems, I have run the usual disk cleaning
programmes, which seemed to speed things up
at the start until I started getting the crashes.
I would just give up but what I have managed
to play of the game was really good so I've
got the bug.

Are there any computer experts on the forum
who my be able to help me?

Regards
Kieron

Chindit,

You have answered my question and now
I feel pretty stupid...RAM, RAM, RAM, RAM,
RAM my head against a brick wall.

I just looked at what ram I have and I've
only a piddly 192 Mb's and what is the
minimum requirements for this game
256 Mb's.

Look everyone I did say this was a bit
off topic for me.

Quick load the Norton anti-virus, firewall
and SP2 back on!!!

(voices from the crowd...What is that man doing.)

I would like to thank everyone for trying to
help me, but I think I am beyond help when
it comes to the techy side of computers.

"Anyone got a plumbing problem...now that
is something I can help you with".

thanks again everyone

regards
Kieron

ha ha
thats pretty funny

if you wanna play games then 256md ddr is the min system requirements, but i would always have 512mb in a gaming machine, i have 768md ddr ram and it works super. games close better, load better, dvds burn better. always go for loads of ram because it will make a load of differance, a good processor is no good with small ram

all the best

It doesn't cost much to get a RAM upgrade.

Or you could go and look for a copy of CMAK - which doesn't run on anything near the specs you already have. See:

Hi again,

Just looked at that game Paul it looks good there
are a few copies on E-bay at the moment.

Also...wait for it...I had a quick look at memory
while on there for the old thinking box, would you
recommend getting memory from such a source?

If it is a good idea please tell me what to look
for.

regards
Kieron

If you are going to improve your specs I would take the machine to a company that knows what they are doing, unless you know how to take your PC tower apart etc. I took my lads PC for a graphics card and RAM upgrade last year so he could play all the latest games. Cost me about £175. The RAM was the cheapest part of it.

what memory do u need
sd-ddr or rd-ram
and what processor do you have
i wouldnt buy it from ebay as most people get it from there so the price is high

expect to pay around £30 for 256mb or £60 for 512mb ram
also you can buy ram with a heatsink so you can overclock the speeds of your ram, but thats another story but an option to considder
