Battlefield 1942, with mods you still can't beat it in my opinion, Medal of Honour, Call of Duty (1 & 2).

I haven't played it for years and so it just came of the top of my head, for PC I will agree it was crap but for the Playstation (One) it is one of the best WW2 games around which is the context I was basing it in. Most of the time I play Battlefield 1942 WW2 mods and some IL-2...
