Germany's B-29

The Messerschmitt Me-265 was a strategic bomber developed under the "Amerika Bomber" programme. It does look strangely similar to the Superfortress:
Me.264 AMERICA

Heres a really detailed picture of this design. seems only one prototype was made and it was damaged by allied air raids in July 1944.
There's a good list of the various test flights and the comments included at the end:

Thank god these designs got no further than prototype stage (Focke-Wulf wass never more than a design)

Nice typo, somebody really should have told the RAF to stop the bombing by then, they're so keen!

That first link mentions the Ju 390.
Junkers Ju 390 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Some debate whether it did if fact fly to 12 miles off NY coast.

I've seen that article. I dont know how true it is though. Controversy rages about it. In relation to the 390 though I remember in Peter O'Donnell's "The Berlin Bunker" that he refers to a plan to have Hitler spirited out of Berlin in a JU390 which could have flown him to Manchukuo!!!
