Squadron Leader Cecil James Algernon Grant Brain, D.F.C. and Bar

Acting Squadron Leader Cecil James Algernon Grant Brain was awarded a Bar to the Distinguished Flying Cross.

This captain of aircraft, now on his second tour of operational duty, has completed many sorties, during which he has always shown the greatest keenness and determination, pressing home his attacks against some of the most heavily defended targets in Germany. On a recent occasion, undeterred by the failure of one of the engines of his aircraft before reaching the enemy coast, Squadron Leader Brain flew on and successfully completed his mission.

Acting Squadron Leader Brain, D.F.C., was born in 1917 and is a native of Dublin. He was educated at Stonyhurst College. In 1939 he resigned his commission as Second Lieutenant in the King’s Own Royal Regiment, when he was granted a commission in the R.A.F. He was awarded the D.F.C. in June, 1940.
