My Great Uncle bailed out over Germany, and I always remember him saying that one of their crew got found by locals first and didn't make it. I'll have to try and get more details next time I see him.

If the aircraft crashed, go to lost bombers and put his name in the search text. Should come up with the aircraft and the crew details.

Cheers

Geoff

Verrieres.
Thanks Verrieres.
We may never know the full or true story.

Thanks Geoff, but unfortunately much to the displeasure of those who bailed out, the pilot took the plane home after all and sent a postcard to the PoW camp my Uncle was at

Joe Potter is an unknown quantity at this point
"Missing Believed Killed" by Stuart Hadaway, ISBN 978-1-88415-734-1, pages 174-179, mentions these cases.
