You might well have seen in the news that Norman Jackson's VC went for £235,250 earlier today, smashing the previous record of £178,250, it's been bought by a private collector, and will remain in the UK

He won his VC by climbing out of his Lancaster into the slipstream to try to put the flames out after they had been attacked by a nightfighter

Its incredible the amount of money they are going for now. Mind you if I had the money I would buy it myself.

It's just absolutely tragic that his children wanted to donate it to the RAF Museum, but due to some lax drafting of Mrs Jackson's will they HAD to be sold. (This is all too common, but legal, says my better half, a probate solicitor).

If they have gone to the alleged purchaser of most recent VCs - Lord Ashcroft - then I fear it will vanish from public view, as have all the others.
