Does anyone know of any sources which list RAF personnel losses in France for May/June 1940 in date order? Or failing that is possible to get a list of the dead for this period? Any NA/PRO refs welcome.

Paul,

Only just seen this post. (Must visit this site more often!!)

Is it just Aircrew you are looking for?

The books Bomber Command Losses, Fighter Command Losses and Coastal Command Losses cover most of these but do not take into account Groundcrew, Ground staff inc WAAFs etc.

I may be able to help with this aspect, if you need it.

Regards

The reason I was asking is that I keep coming across unknown WW2 airman, all killed in May 1940, on visits to WW1 cemeteries in France.

Eg at POIX-DU-NORD COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION see below.

Any thoughts?

That's actually fairly common. To avoid having to open new CWGC cemeteries the second time over, the British often placed their WW2 dead in with the World War I dead. It's similar to how the WW1 memorials simply had the numbers 1939-1945 added to the base of the stone. Many of the CWGC cemeteries built for WW1 accommodate WW2 dead, as well.
