Flying Mosquitos?

Reassuringly long lists of Mosquito survivors:

Preserved Aircraft 200-2001 of the Fleet Air Arm Archive 1939-1945 Preserved FAA Aircraft Page
& Mosquito Locations
A handful are listed as airworthy/being restored to airworthy, anyone know the current situation as I thought the type was 100% ground-based at the moment. I seem to recall seeing one flying when I was a kid in the eighties but don't trust the memory??? Having a little difficuilty finding good info. (are we all 'mosquito survivors' )

What are my chances of seeing a flying Mosquito?

I think I'd like that.

Cheers,
Adam.

Gnomey will become famous soon enough
Re: Flying Mosquitos?

As far as I know there are none flying at the moment although there are those you have mentioned being restored to flying condition so maybe in a few years it will be possible.

Re: Flying Mosquitos?

I thought there was still one flying in America? But good to know others are being restored.

I think that Duxford is restoring one to flying condition.

Is the Mosquito the aircraft that was referred to as the "Termite's Delight?"

I think they are, but I haven't seen it for a bit!

There's one being done up at Elvington - the museum just south of York. Don't know if it's being done up to flying standard though.

That's the bunny. Wooden structure, twin engines, up to 4000lb bombload etc etc etc. Also known as the "Wooden Wodner" or the "Flying Coffin".

Try this site for a bit more info and general obsessiveness.
