Guardsman J W HAYES, Dunkirk memorial

Hello,
Having secured a photo from Owen of the Dunkirk Memorial it was plain to me that one name was missing from my list, that of HAYES, JW.

A quick search of cwgc brought this up, no mention of him on report for Dunkirk:

Guardsman JAMES WILLIAM HAYES 6654626, 2nd Bn., Irish Guards who died age 24 on 13 May 1940
Son of James Morris Hayes and Julia Hayes; stepson of Margaret Hayes, of Notting Hill, London.
Remembered with honour HOOK OF HOLLAND GENERAL CEMETERY

Is this a matter of his grave being located, after his name was commemorated on the Dunkirk Memorial?

Any comments appreciated.
Regards,
Diane

I would think that his body was washed on the shore in Holland - my Great War research has shown this several times

12th May 1940 is when 2IG went to Holland to cover evacuation of Dutch Royal Family.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the input.

What I really want to know is why he is commemorated on the Memorial for all to see, yet no longer appears on the official records as such.

Clearly he is now interred at Hook of Holland which makes perfect sense with the dates of the evacuation of Queen Wilhelmina et al.

Is this common when bodies are still being discovered and identified and would it be worth contacting Cwgc to find out what they have on record Would they give out information about individual burials to non-relatives?

Cheers,
dbf
