![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | British Naval Vessels Lost at Sea, 1939-45. Looking up Vailron's reference to an accident in Shetland I came across this site with a complete (?) list of all craft of all types lost during the war, c.2500 craft: British Naval Vessels lost at Sea, 1939-45. Can't find a previous reference on here so thought I'd post it. I think of the big ships like Hood, Prince of Wales etc. in the context of 'lost at sea' but the extensive lists of smaller craft really bring home the wider nature of the carnage. Cheers, Adam.

![]() | The number of cruisers and destroyers lost always surprises me. I keep reading about RN cruisers I haven't heard of before!

![]() | Yep, Glorious if I remember correctly. She got stuck between Gneisenau and Scharnhorst in the North Sea.

The expression comes from the days of the sailing ships, when the crew would either be released from duty or transfered to another ship, any wages owing to them would be paid Last edited by redcoat; 23-06-2007 at 01:02 AM. | |
