Hi guys,

This site seems more definitive, confirms Brian's details and is stronger evidence of the drownings(?)

The British journal was not meant as finite, just showing that they were not aware of the deaths at the time.

My Avatar is the memorial to the 22 Commonwealth Coastwatchers at the Temakin Cemetery on Betio (Tarawa Atoll) who were beheaded by the Japanese on 15th October 1942. http://www.dva.gov.au/media/publicat...mem_beito.html

"You were given the choice between war and dishonor.
You chose dishonor and you will have war."

(Winston Churchill made this prophetic pronouncement in a House of Commons speech in 1938, just after Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich agreement with Hitler. Chamberlain returned from Germany with the signed agreement in hand, proclaiming that "peace in our time" had been achieved. Churchill attacked Chamberlain's "politics of appeasement" in this and many other speeches.)

What did the Australians do in ww2 and other conflicts? Check out this site:

Brian

Three of the names you gave for 21.12.42 I did not have but now do. I have all those for 12.2.44, in fact I have 76 females (various services) for that incident (SS Khedive Ismail) and when I had sorted those I was waylaid by other research and didn't get around to finishing the trawl. My pending file is getting bigger by the day.

It does help when you have a contact at C.W.G.C. that can give more details than is on the Web site Geoff.

I wonder, do we have the full total of nurse casualties. Extracts from various web site comments from survivors, particularly one from Sister Anne Dullard, who survived the sinking and the war, suggest otherwise

".......holding her up. Somehow in the black nightmare Mildred disappeared. She was one of the 28 girls, all in their 20s who lost their lives in the Strathallan ".

Accurate or speculation??
