![]() | Singapore Naval Base It's well known that the Singapore Naval Base built before WW2 was a colossal investment that turned out to be pretty much a complete waste of money. I've been thinking about this folly lately. One point not always made clear is that the whole "base" contained a dockyard and much more besides (eg football piches for sailors, houses for Asian workers etc). If we look at just the dockyard I'm curious how it compared with, say, Portsmouth dockyard. I know Singapore had one dry dock that was the largest in the world, but suppose you made a list of all the docks, dry and wet, locks and basins, and their capacities, in both dockyards; how would that comparison look? Anybody know where that data about Singapore naval dockyard is to be found? Bart |
