Hello from a new member

Hello,
I have just joined the site and hope to get to know you all, I would just like to mention here that my elder brother James Victor was killed in action on HMS Charybidis,he was just 19 years old as many of the crew were, just young lads who were probably quite excited at their going into battle for the first time.

My brother had previously been in the Fleet Air Arm, but had, as he said, wanted to see action, well he did that all right,for his first and last time!

I have just recently read all the details about their last action, on the internet.

My brother was a stoker 1st class ( 1st class,what that means I do`nt know, perhaps someone can enlighten me?. He had told us that he wanted to be a gunner, and was hoping to hear about that when we last saw him. Perhaps if he had been, its possible he may have had a chance to survive when the ship was torpedoed.

I have just read recently in the newspaper, about the vandalism to the Plymouth Memorial, it made me feel quite sickened to realise that my brother and others like him, sacrificed their young lives for the kind of scum who took part in this awful vandalism. They have no respect for anything or anybody, what kind of people are their parents I wonder?

Well I`ll say no more on the subject it makes my blood boil, and I can
only hope that in some way they will pay for what they have done.

Does anyone else on here know about the Charybidis? if so I would love to hear from you.
There is a memorial service etc held each year in the Channel Islands, unfortunately I had not known about it years ago when I would have been able to visit, sadly I am now disabled and unable to travel very far. However, it is nice to know that they were not forgotten.
